As we come into our 50th Anniversary, we are offering a variety of classes that we hope appeal to our members.  We want to support our members increasing their knowledge and skills in the hobby we all love.

Harmony’s 50th Celebration: We have two classes that clearly relate to Harmony – then and now.

  • History of Harmony – An excellent presentation has been prepared on how Harmony came to be. Few of our current members are charter members, so most of us could learn how we came to be.
  • What a Dream Can Do – this is the beautiful song written for Harmony by Christine Hayes, the director of Silk’n Sounds.  The song shares our passion for music.   There will be sectional rehearsals for baritones and basses and leads and tenors so that we can all perform the song on Saturday – it will be an awesome experience. Lindsay Chartier and Jennifer Wheaton will be the “section leaders”.

Learn how your chorus can be a standout among all the other local choral groups…….

  • How to be a Good MC….  Being an MC, whether in barbershop area or not, requires some basic skills and this is the place to learn them. The MC class participants will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the Saturday evening show.
  • Show Production - Tips on putting a performance together – the more professional we can make our performances, the more respect we will earn in our community.
  • Marketing into the Future Panel Discussion & Roundtable:  Colleen Christman, Chris Kuntz, Wendy McCoole, Kath Morgan, Elaine Pelkey, Heather Solomon: Leveraging technology to improve Marketing/PR efforts:  increase visibility, enhance image, net more revenues, and attract more members.  How to achieve better results using:  websites, Facebook, YouTube, Myspace, blogs, etc.

For those members who want to improve their individual skills …….

  • Unleashing Your Own Great Voice – Learn how to improve your voice and generate more resonance so that you can  help your chorus and/or quartet even more.
  • Using Linguistic Techniques in Singing  –  You will learn new ways to sing more cleanly, using linguistic techniques; you will be surprised how quickly some of those troublesome word sounds improve.
  • Warm ups and other Boot Camp Basics for Singers – The class will help new singers as well as those of us who have been around a while….  We all need a refresher class and this one will be awesome.

For directors, quartets, coaches and most anyone else….

  • Making a Song Come Alive - how to approach lyrics, melody and arrangement as part of determining the best choices for tempo, dynamics, inflection and music.
  • Song Themes – What you need to know - You will have an opportunity to explore the different thematic choices we have  to effectively communicate a message to the audience, and follow with DVD examples, and hopefully lively discussion!
  • Just for Laughs – Learn how to design and develop of a comedic performance; what makes an audience laugh and still get good scores in singing.
